Some saws
will require you to finish drilling holes on your side cover for the outside
dog, they are always pe-marked where the holes need to be, you may need to
remove and reinstall the plastic chain guide to see and install bolts.

If you’re going to fell a
tree you need big dogs to hold the weight of the saw so you can gently guide
the saw as needed, otherwise you have to muscle the full weight of the saw
which is constantly wearing you down. Make your saw do the work it’s supposed
to do, buy PILTZ felling dogs. The bottom dog on any saw needs to independently
touch the tree and completely support the saw during the felling operation.
This dog becomes a pivot point to help you direct the saw, without this you are
forced to hold and man handle the entire weight of the saw which will wear out
the toughest man in short order.
These replace the useless
factory dogs or no dogs. These are designed for experienced
professionals who are trained in the proper use of such gear
for felling of trees, any dog can be dangerous if not used correctly, the
bottom dog is designed to be jammed into the tree but can just as easily be
jammed into your knee or any other part of your body, how you use them and what
you use them on is your responsibility. If you can poke yourself with a knife
you certainly can poke yourself with any felling dog, use them wisely. Bottom
dog is left a bit blunt and can be sharpened to meet your needs.
You might want to know why
you should buy our dogs when others are available at a cheaper price. First
impressions are it’s a flat piece of steel cut it out and sell it, trust me
there is a lot of technology and engineering that goes into making these dogs. It
is not possible to replicate our product anymore then you can replicate a chief’s
secret recipe.
First of all let me say
that besides personally having 30.000 hours of chainsaw trigger time I have over
50 family members who are in or were in the Timber Felling profession since
1950 which is going on 70 years now. We know why you need Felling Dogs and why
they must be built a certain way. These days everyone with a plasma cutter
thinks he can copy our dogs in his garage with no knowledge on the subject and
you the buyer won’t find out the difference until it’s too late.
These dogs take a huge
beating, to build a dog that will last requires high grade steel heat treated
and annealed correctly, a process your back yard eBay salesman has no capacity
to do. Economic necessity requires these dogs be produced in batches of 1000 or
more at a time, it requires a serious commitment. You cannot build a dozen and
sell them on eBay and expect them to last. It is however easy to make them look
good to the untrained eye, and pull in the suckers. Cheap imitations are not
cheap when they break or bend the first time you put them to the test.
Our dogs are made from
high grade tool steel and I assure you the people selling you copies of our
product are made from the cheapest steel they could find without any treatment.
We have spared no cost to bring you the best product possible.
If you really want to get screwed buy your dogs from
China. China puts out the most God awful products the world has ever seen. China
has copied every product we sell and it all looks great in a picture. Honestly
the copy cats in America aren’t really much better. Without spending the money to
buy the right steel and treat it as we do it will never last a day in the
woods.
I was a field tester for
Stihl in 1984 when Stihl brought out the first prototypes of the 084 and 064
chainsaws, these two saws are now sold as the MS661/MS880. Stihl used me to
test these saws because they knew I could put enough hours on the saw in 5
months to completely wear it out and they needed that quick information. One
question I had for them back in 1984 was why they don’t make proper felling
dogs for their saws. The sad answer they gave was well nobody but us West Coast
Timber Fellers even knew they were needed. Why should we spend money to build something
when the people don’t even know any better? The other sad reality is that most
of our dog sales are to people who buy them because they think it looks good.
Of course once you use our dogs it’s near impossible to go back to no dogs or
small dogs. Chainsaw dogs greatly reduce the effort required to fell and buck a
tree.
I feel one of our greatest
products has been dogs for the little MS170-180 Stihl saws, until we started
building them back in 2013 nobody had ever thought of it. Those of you who have
bought them over the years know you simply can’t live without them. Now that I’m
producing them everyone wants to be Jonny-Come-Lately and copy what we do
without any knowledge of the subject. Weather you buy from us or someone else,
we opened this market and we produce the best product on the market because we
know what were building. Every dog on the market was copied from PILTZ, why not
save yourself some grief and buy the original PILTZ chainsaw dogs sold by kevlargaffs
and know you’re getting the right product built the right way.

the correct parts and knowledge to set them up correctly, a true hot saw is a
saw that cuts faster NOT a saw with more horse power. If you want to enter a
drag race you should buy lots of horse power, if you want to cut logs with a
chainsaw you should buy light weight.
